Conscientiology researchers IAC investigations are conducted by a team of researchers allocated in its offices around the world. The IAC's researchers have completed a variety of research projects using varied methodologies, from experimental research and case studies to theoretical and conceptual propositions and discussions. The earliest pioneer of conscientiology is Waldo Vieira, MD, whose contribution is vital. Dr. Vieira is widely acknowledged at the forefront of conscientiological research and is the progenitor of the science of conscientiology, introducing the concept of the study of the consciousness and its manifestation outside the physical body to the scientific world. Today, the science is well established and conscientiological investigation and experimentation is carried out by groups of researchers based in a number of locations around the world, each affiliated to one or more conscientiological organizations, amongst which is the IAC. Dr. Vieira, who can be considered today the head researcher in this field, has experienced conscious and confirmed out-of-body experiences since the age of 9, which motivated his studies to become a physician in order to better understand the neurophysiological elements involved in such experiences. Arguably the foremost authority on these subjects in the world today, he brings the value and credibility of almost 50 years of research to the organization. During these years, he amassed a personal library of more than 63,000 specialized volumes, creating a unique reference source. He is the author of numerous books including the two comprehensive treatises upon which the sciences of projectiolology and conscientiology are based. Each of these volumes is a substantial academic and practical work containing over 1,000 pages and providing the most exhaustive single source of data on each subject available today. Presently, Vieira is directing a team of researchers compiling the Encyclopedia of Conscientiology, an undertaking of substantial proportions.
