Image Target Research Project
A Methodology to Support Research on
Remote Perception Phenomena
According to Projectiology, the projection of the consciousness
(out-of-body experience, astral travel) and the traveling clairvoyance
(remote viewing) are phenomena that can be related through the fact
that both can be used to acquire information at a distance. During
those phenomena, the perception is done through the holochakra and/or
the psychosoma and the physical senses of the human body do not
participate in that process. With the idea of supporting this hypothesis,
several researchers have developed experiments ranging from those
following the rigors of conventional science to those more focused
on subjective aspects of the phenomena and personal accounts.
Some research projects on remote perception
with published results found in the literature are: The ASPR Fly
In, ESP Trainer - Liverpool John Moores University, Charles Tart
Experiment, ASPR and Ingo Swan,
This research project aims at the analysis
of remote perception through out-of-body experience and traveling
clairvoyance. The objectives of the methodology presented are:
1. To present a simple and effective method
to support the data collection and analysis of remote perception
phenomena, aiming at gathering further evidence of human perception
through means beyond the five physical senses;
2. Provide an opportunity for the participants
of this research to conduct self-investigation while verifying objectively
their extraphysical perceptions.
The research focus is based on the theory that
the Consciousness can acquire information remotely through Out-of-body
Experience or Traveling Clairvoyance. The evidence collected will
be used to either further validate this theory or point to new perspectives
concerning the phenomena involved.
The method employed is related with the assumption
that by offering to the public an opportunity to participate in
a research project such as this would motivate people to objectively
test their psychic abilities.
Phenomena that this Research Project is focused on
The Image Target Project focuses on the study
of two parapsychic phenomena of the Consciousness:
- Projection of the Consciousness
(or Out-of-Body Experience - OBE). This is a subjective
phenomenon, where the projector experiences a non-physical state
of manifestation through the disconnection of his/her consciousness
from the physical body. The consciousness uses vehicles more subtle
than the physical body to interact with its surroundings. In the
projected state, the perception process is different than that
experienced through the human body. The perception is also dependent
on the level of lucidity of the projector. The extraphysical lucidity
can vary, leading to experiences that range from unconscious projections
to projections where the lucidity is beyond ordinary-waking state.
- Traveling Clairvoyance
(Remote Viewing). This phenomenon consists in the disconnection
or partial projection of the holochakra (energetic body) that
allows the consciousness to see and/or hear events, objects, people
or animals in places that could not be reached using the five
physical senses from the place that the physical body is located.
The main difference between these two phenomena
is that during Traveling Clairvoyance the psychosoma is still partially
merged with the physical body while in the out-of-body experience
the disconnection of the psychosoma is complete. Both phenomena
allow the consciousness to acquire information at a distance without
using the senses of the physical body.
The main goal of the project’s methodology
is to collect descriptions from the participants that match the
image displayed in the computer screens. The image is randomly selected
from a pool of pre-defined photos and geometric forms and is made
available every night in a pre-defined timeframe. The room where
the image is displayed is locked before the computer displays the
image, making the experiment double blind.
The procedure includes the double blind
system, where the image target remains unknown for both the researchers
and the participant until all the experiment feedback forms have
been collected. Since we count on voluntary participation, the overall
procedure had to be simple for the participant, with forms that
could be filled out quickly. The procedure to register and verify
results is also simplified to encourage participation.
The participant had to register in the ITRP
website and submit feedback forms for each experiment that includes
the image perceived (if any). Participation was open to the public
and invitations were sent by e-mail, newsgroups, and the Journal
of Conscientiology.
A website was created in order to interact
with participants and allow new participants to join. The website
was published with the IIPC’s official website, with the address:
http://www.iipc.org/ImageTarget from July 2001 until August 2002.
From this date on, the official IAC website is hosting the site
of this research project.
