Letter from Michael Ross

To the Editor1:

Marcelo Rouanet (Journal of Conscientiology Volume 9, No.33 July 2006) in response to my letters to the correspondence section, states that he disagrees with (a) my point that there is no proof of psychic phenomena and post mortem survival and (b) the claim that it is impossible to obtain scientific proof concerning these issues. I certainly maintain the situation expounded in (a) and I certainly do not agree with the statement in (b). In my opinion, there is no scientific proof concerning ANY psychic phenomena!

No-one in the correspondence columns, including Marcelo Rouanet, has provided one single example of proof that scientists can all agree on. The example he quotes out of a book is, as usual, anecdotal in nature and demonstrates the usual almost - but not quite - pale examples that are limited in the proof they offer. All scientists agree there is a phenomenon known as gravity. Scientific experiments and ludicrously simple demonstrations of apples dropping onto heads prove without doubt that gravity exists. Can anyone show me ANY psychic phenomenon that has the substantial proof and necessary repetitive occurrences that gravity universally demonstrates? Of course not!

I have read the most ludicrous excuses for this, not demonstrable in nature, of say the OBE phenomenon (not in the Journal I hasten to add!).The most absurd is forwarded by so-called Gurus like the late Paul Brunton who maintained that astral projection was a low form of phenomena. Brunton probably was never out of his body in his life. He just sat there with an air of superiority and an enigmatic smile as though he was beyond such a vulgar display of "low" powers.

In addition, the American magician James Randi has offered a million dollars to anyone who can demonstrate any psychic phenomenon. No volunteers, if there have been any, have succeeded. Again some spouters of nonsense, usually fake psychics, state that this is not possible since it trivialises their talents etc… This is nonsense. They do not prove or demonstrate because they cannot do it. The obvious solution is to donate the million dollars to one's favourite charity if one's sense of moral decorum has been offended.

I have had approximately over 200 out-of-body experiences (OBE's) over the years. I tried many years ago to prove that I could project out of my body and go in my astral body or psychosoma to a target of 5 digit numbers hundreds of miles away. This experiment was suggested by me and I attempted this over two years or so with no success whatsoever. I did not succeed once in leaving the body and going to the target and bringing back the 5 digit number. I would love to prove it to the world but I have not succeeded. I do not know why. More than likely I am not in control of the OBE as I could or should be. There are probably plenty of people out there who can control these phenomena. So far they have chosen to hide their light under a bushel as far as providing scientific proof is concerned.

Regarding Rouanet's assertion in (b) where it is stated that it is impossible to provide scientific proof I, of course, maintain it most certainly is possible. Just that no-one has come forward to prove it in respectable scientific experimentation. I have yet to read a legitimate, logically sounding excuse as to why they have not. If you can project out of your body in the physical plane and have total control then you can reach a target and prove it once and for all.

I look forward to logical reasons as to why this has not been done.
