Have you ever woken up unable to move, felt presences around you, or even heard strange sounds? This experience, known as sleep paralysis, is more common than it seems—but it is also one of the most misunderstood.
Many people believe that every episode of sleep paralysis is a spiritual attack. But is that true? Let's take a closer look at this phenomenon.
What sleep paralysis is
Physiologically, sleep paralysis occurs when we wake up during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase. During this phase, the physical body enters muscle atonia—a natural paralysis that prevents a person from moving physically while dreaming.
If consciousness wakes before the body does, the two fall out of sync: the mind is lucid, but the body has not yet responded.
From the perspective of the sciences of consciousness, this is a partial disconnection between the physical body and the psychosoma (extraphysical body). Consciousness is active outside the body but still strongly connected to the soma, creating a feeling of immobility.
Common symptoms:
- Inability to move the physical body;
- A feeling of weight or pressure on the chest;
- Perceiving presences in the room;
- Sounds, voices, buzzing, or clicks;
- Seeing shadows, figures, or distorted shapes;
- A feeling of floating or that something is “entering” or “leaving” the body.
These effects result both from sleep physiology and from heightened energetic sensitivity in an altered state of consciousness.
Confusion with “spiritual attacks”
Here is the central point: sleep paralysis is not automatically a spiritual attack.
- From a physiological perspective: it can happen to any healthy person, without any context of spiritual harassment.
- From a multidimensional perspective: the partial disconnection heightens energetic sensitivity, and a person may perceive both extraphysical presences and thought-forms.
In other words, perceiving something does not necessarily mean that you are being attacked.
Do spiritual attacks exist?
Yes, hostile extraphysical consciousnesses (harassers) exist and can interact negatively. However, this is not limited to sleep paralysis.
Harassment can occur:
- While awake;
- In dreams;
- During conscious projections;
- Or even in social interactions, through exchanges of energy.
Therefore: a spiritual attack can happen during sleep paralysis, but the paralysis itself is not an attack.
What to do during sleep paralysis
- Stay calm – fear makes the experience worse and interferes with lucidity.
- Apply energy techniques – such as OLVE (Voluntary Longitudinal Oscillation of Energy).
- Make the most of the opportunity – sleep paralysis can be the perfect springboard for a conscious projection.
- Record the experience – write down the details to distinguish real perception from fantasy.
Sleep paralysis is a natural phenomenon studied both by conventional science and by the sciences of consciousness. It may come with extraphysical perceptions, but it should not automatically be mistaken for a spiritual attack.
With discernment, this experience can stop being a source of fear and become an opportunity for evolution—a gateway to lucid out-of-body experiences and the development of energetic self-defense.
